Following Europe’s mighty western border, reaching from Scandinavia to South and Western Portugal, the Atlantic Coast Route visits the majestic fjords of Norway, the wild Irish coastline, the rough cliffs of Brittany and the sun-kissed beaches of Portugal, totalling 11,000 km. Along the way, you will not only be seduced by bustling port cities and cosy fishing villages but also be impressed by dramatic landscapes and have the chance to enjoy the best seafood each country offers.

Britain and Brittany is a wonderfully varied ride taking you through the coasts and countryside of South Wales, South West England and the heart of Brittany.

Starting in the west Wales port of Fishguard, the route follows Pembrokeshire’s scenic backroads and dramatic coastline and passes through historic St David’s, Britain’s smallest city. Heading east, you will encounter glorious estuary views, the golden sands of Swansea Bay and the ancient castles of Caerphilly and Chepstow.

Crossing into England on the mile-long Severn Bridge, you can explore the vibrant city of Bristol and the historic sites of Glastonbury and Wells. Through rolling countryside and past wild Exmoor, the route heads south along Victorian railway cuttings and viaducts, immersing you in the natural beauty of Dartmoor. The port city of Plymouth is rich in maritime history and from there you can take the ferry to Roscoff.

Setting off south from Roscoff, a characterful fishing port surrounded by white sand beaches, the route takes you along river valleys through unspoilt rolling countryside and along the peaceful Nantes-Brest canal. You can swim at Lac de Guerlédan, Brittany’s largest lake, and explore pretty towns and picturesque villages such as Josselin with its 11th century castle. The stage ends in the historic and dynamic city of Nantes on the Loire river.
